Ornette Coleman – Ornette! – Speakers Corner 180g Vinyl LP
Ornette Coleman, who died in June 2015 from cardiac arrest, must be counted as one of the most influential musicians in the jazz genre. His importance does not only lie in his ground-breaking recordings in the late Fifties and early Sixties, but lies more significantly in the educational effect of his work ā in the fact that he always went beyond himself to the very end.
Ornette Coleman ā Ornette on Tenor – Vinyl LP
Ornette Coleman ā Ornette on Tenor Vinyl LP: Free Jazz, Fully Unleashed in Analogue Form
Bold, boundary-breaking, and brimming with energy, Ornette on Tenor captures the legendary saxophonist in full creative flight. Shifting from alto to tenor sax, Coleman explores deeper tones and freer forms with his classic quartet. Pressed on vinyl for rich texture and dynamic impact, this is essential listening for adventurous audiophiles and jazz purists alike.Oscar Peterson Trio with Milt Jackson ā Very Tall ā Verve Records 180g Vinyl
Scott Yanow of AllMusic says in his 4-Star review of Very Tall: āThis first matchup on records between pianist Oscar Peterson and vibraphonist Milt Jackson was so logical that it is surprising it did not occur five years earlier. Originally recorded for Verve and three decades later reissued on this audiophile CD by Mobile Fidelity, the quartet set (which also includes bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen) swings as hard as one might expect. Highlights include āOn Green Dolphin Street,ā āThe Work Song,ā āJohn Brownās Bodyā (a jam on āBattle Hymn of the Republicā) and āReunion Blues.ā Fortunately O.P. and Bags would meet up on records many times in the future (particularly during their Pablo years) but this first effort is a particularly strong set.ā

Otis Redding ā The Dock Of The Bay ā Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 Series Hybrid Stereo SACD
The guts of the story are this: While on tour with the Bar-Kays in August 1967, Otis Reddingās popularity was rising, and he was inundated with fans at his hotel in downtown San Francisco. Looking for a retreat, he accepted rock concert impresario Bill Grahamās offer to stay at his houseboat at Waldo Point in Sausalito, California. Inspired, Redding started writing the lines, āSittinā in the morning sun, Iāll be sittinā when the evening comesā and the first verse of a song, under the abbreviated title āDock of the Bay.ā
