The impact, influence, and importance of Run-D.M.C.'s self-titled debut – the album that invented hardcore hip-hop and bridged rap, rock, and funk in then-unparalleled ways – cannot be measured. The first full-length record released by Profile Records, the 1984 set permanently changed the sound of music, broadcast streetwise wisdom to every corner of the country, and made the notion of a one-man band a distinct reality. Run-D.M.C. leaves no doubt about its intent on King of Rock. The New York trio’s hard-hitting sophomore album begins with a statement of purpose (“Rock the House”) that serves as a stereophonic primer for the title track, a hybrid warning-anthem-theme song that swarms with justified boasts, heavy metal riffs, booming beats, cowbell accents, and dance-worthy grooves. The back-to-back tunes set the tone for a 1985 record that largely established the blueprint for the hip-hop that would follow for the next two decades — and which helped make rap a mainstream currency via the previously off-limits channels of radio, TV, and the national stage.

Julie London – Latin In A Satin Mood – Analogue Productions 200g Vinyl
Analogue Productions has brought back Julie London sings Latin In A Satin Mood in dramatic, deserving fashion. Remastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, and plated and pressed on 200-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, the crispness and vibrancy of this recording is spectacular.
Exotic and Latin albums were big deals in the 1950s and early ’60s, and singers as diverse as Dean Martin, Lena Horne, and Peggy Lee were recording with castanets and bongo drums. Like Peggy Lee, London combines a restrained vocal approach with jazz phrasing and a cool attitude with icy sex appeal on this album of relaxing Latin standards. Julie does look beautiful on the cover, and the backup male “mariachi-esque” serenade ads to the romantic ambiance.

Root Down was Hammond B-3 jazz legend Jimmy Smith's 1972 live jazz album for Verve. Recorded in Los Angeles on February 8, 1972, it includes the title track, which was sampled by the Beastie Boys for their song "Root Down." The song peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard Top Jazz Album charts.
