Deemed the third Greatest Album of All Time by Rolling Stone; universally celebrated by critics, fans, artists, and educators; and defined by a spell of disarmingly vulnerable songs at once confessional, intense, spare, honest, painful, hopeful, and exquisite, Blue charts love, spiritualism, independence, and loss like no record before or since. It is the epitome of brilliance – and sounds more intimate, involving, and inescapable than ever on MoFi SuperVinyl via Mobile Fidelity’s UltraDisc One-Step 180g 45RPM 2LP box set.

Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong – Ella & Louis – Analogue Productions 180g Stereo Vinyl

£55.00
It is undeniable that Billie Holiday’s singing changed in her later years. Her voice darkened and shifted to a lower range. Her economy of means distilled her sound to its expressive essence — a kind of heightened speech. The classic LP Songs For Distingue Lovers has also deepened and become burnished with time. Maybe it’s that still-arresting word, “distingue”; maybe it’s that iconic, tinted image of Lady Day on the cover. But now that legendary LP, with the singer’s best studio work of the Fifties, is available through the Acoustic Sounds Series.

Johnny Winter – Johnny Winter – 180G Speakers Corner Vinyl

£39.95
Winter remains pretty cool when people attempt to identify personal afflictions in his music: When I play blues, I feel good he stated recently to a journalist. That the same goes for over 40 years ago is substantiated by both sides of this debut album.

Joan Baez – Recently – Analogue Productions 180g Vinyl

£49.95
The title track from Recently is a stunning Joan Baez original, where she boldly answers ex-husband David Harris’ downbeat memoir of the ’60s, Dreams Die Hard, as well as other ’80s revisionists. The track “Asimbognagna” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Recording.

John Coltrane – With The Red Garland Trio – Analogue Productions 200g Vinyl

£50.00
For his second long player, John Coltrane (tenor saxophone) joined forces with his Prestige labelmate Red Garland (piano) to command a quartet through a five-song outing supported by a rhythm section of Paul Chambers (bass) and Art Taylor (drums). The absence of any unessential instrumentalists encouraged a decidedly concerted focus from Coltrane, who plays with equal measures of confidence and freedom. The Coltrane original “Traneing In” Is a rousing blues that exemplifies the musical singularity between Coltrane and Garland. Even though Garland, the pianist, takes charge from the start, the structure of the arrangement permits the tenor to construct his solo seamlessly out of Garland’s while incrementally increasing in intensity, yet never losing the song’s underlying swinging bop.

Buddy Guy & Junior Wells – Going Back To Acoustic – Pure Pleasure Records 180g Vinyl

£39.95
“…These classic songs are matched by an impeccable re-master of the kind of recording which constantly reminds me exactly just why I own a turntable. Fantastic transparency, a jaw dropping presentation of rough hewed vocal dynamic shifts and the kind of inner details that scream ‘intimacy’ recreates the atmospheric roots of the Deep South – making this a must own record from a sonic perspective as well.” Recording = 9.5/10; Music = 9/10 – Reuben Parry, Hi-Fi+, Issue 45
