Review of the Canor Tube Amplifier in Hi Fi Choice, 5 stars.

The Canor TP106 VR is a new aluminium design integrated tube amplifier, with 6L6GC high-power tubes in ultra-linear connection to cathode feedback that operates in pure class A up to 11 watts per channel.

Canor have employed an entirely new mechanical and electronic topology that yields further significant improvements in sound.

The amplifier is a massive welded-metal structure with a heavyweight printed circuit board comprising double-thick copper, as well as strong high-frequency shielding: this makes the TP106 VR extremely resistant to both mechanical and electrical influences, and is critical if a tube amplifier is to be able to attain the ‘neutral’ presentation and characteristics for which they are admired.

The management section that provides overall amplifier control is completely galvanically separated from the audio section; and the transformer core is vacuum-impregnated so as to ensure the lack of any transformer hum. Furthermore, the area that controls power supply employs very effective high-frequency filters, and anode voltage is rectified by vacuum diodes and is filtered with high-capacity capacitors.

One of the most important parts of a tube amplifier, the output transformer, has several bifilar windings which are lined up in sections to maximise power bandwidth.

The TP106 VR integrated tube amplifier uses polypropylene capacitors exclusively in its signal path to provide an extremely impressive acoustic quality.

The VR+ model features superior Mundorf capacitors that provide a major upgrade in performance over the basic model.

The TP106 is available in either a black or silver finish.   The amplifier can be heard in our Huddersfield demonstration room, or we can arrange for you to listen to it in your own home. Get to know this amplifier and you will be seduced.

You can find out more about Canor on their own web site. And a review of the TP106 VR+ can be found here.

Ex-Dem Pass Labs XP-22 Preamplifier

Original price was: £9,975.00.Current price is: £8,500.00.
The new design uses double-shielded low noise toroidal transformers in external supply The new design uses double-shielded low noise toroidal transformers in an external supply connected via aviation-grade circular connectors using silver over oxygen-free copper. The power supply is dual mono with two transformers with lower radiated and mechanical noise. Noise is the most prominent part of THD+N at low levels, so by lowering noise we get better resolution and dynamics. The gain circuitry continues to use our favorite transistors from Toshiba but has a larger, higher biased, output stage like the Xs Preamp, and includes auto bias. The larger output stage makes longer, and multiple cable runs easier to drive and gives us the advantage of simplifying our single-ended output circuitry while increasing performance. The volume control is a single stage instead of two stages and has more range; it is quieter and more accurate. This is the same volume control as used in the XP-30. Overall this makes for a quieter, more neutral, musical, and versatile control center for your system. The XP-22 measures spectacularly well — but it really stands out sonically.

First Watt F7 Power Amplifier

£4,000.00
The F7 is a very unique power amplifier.
Aa two-stage push-pull JFET/MOSFET topology with fewer parts than any First Watt amplifier to date and incorporating a very interesting balance of very low negative voltage feedback and a little bit of positive current feedback to give an astonishing measure of control over reactive loudspeaker loads.

First Watt SIT-4 Power Amplifier

£4,995.00
The SIT-4 is the First Watt power amplifier using the industrial grade Static Induction Transistors. It is preceded by the ground breaking SIT-1, 2, and 3 and follows their technical philosophy and construction. An important difference in the SIT-4 is the SIT device itself. The previous three designs used Silicon Carbide to make a custom vertical power Jfet with a low impedance Drain whose character nicely emulated a power Triode tube, but directly operating at the current and voltage that would drive loudspeakers without the requirement for an output transformer. SITs lend themselves to high quality audio performance with very simple Class A circuits with little or no dependence on other active circuit elements or negative feedback.

First Watt Sit-5 Power Amplifier

£4,995.00
The SIT-5 is the most recent amplifier produced by First Watt, and is the fifth to use a Static Induction Transistor (SIT) as the power amplifying device. In 2011 we introduced our first SIT amplifier using a custom Silicon Carbide (SiC) transistor part made by SemiSouth. The amplifier also used a single power device, operating without feedback in single-ended Class A Common-Source mode to deliver 10 watts of power emulating the characteristic of a Triode, but operating at voltage and currents directly needed by loudspeakers, eliminating the output transformer.
