Stephen Stills – Stephen Stills – Analogue Productions (Atlantic 75 Series) 45RPM 180g 2 LP Vinyl Record

£78.00

“This is one of those remastered pressings that have eked out the absolute best that that master tape has to offer. When applied to the quiet vinyl that Analogue Productions has, and you get that music off a dark black background, it rewards you with incredible, awesome music. I believe this is what Stephen Stills had in mind in the studio when the album was put together. It sounds that good.” — Mike’s Vinyl Experience, YouTube

This self-titled solo debut from CSNY’s most musically adventurous member is a tour de force of bluesy rock, Latin grooves, and pure, unfiltered Stephen Stills energy. His songs are certainly in a league with those of the other members, and it’s chiefly on his solo albums that Stills’s own personality comes through.

Still’s Top 20 hit “Love the One You’re With” was the lead single from the album, released in November 1970. The album’s other smash, “Sit Yourself Down,” the seccond single, reached the Top 40, peaking at No. 37. Stills doesn’t just play guitar here — he wrestles it into submission, layering his virtuosity over an album that sounds both meticulously crafted and effortlessly cool.

Oh, and did we mention it features both Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton? Because it does. That’s like having both the Beatles and the Stones as your backup band.

Recorded in the wake of CSNY’s success, Stephen Stills proves that while Crosby and Nash leaned into their harmonies and Young wandered off into his own world, Stills was busy crafting something bolder, grittier, and sonically rich.

Stills jumps from folk to blues to Latin to orchestral balladry, but it never feels disjointed. The production is warm and immersive, with Stills playing most of the instruments himself (because of course he does). If Déjà Vu was a collaborative masterpiece, Stephen Stills is proof that he could do just fine on his own.

This definitive deluxe 180-gram 45 RPM 2LP Analogue Productions (Atlantic 75 Series) reissue of Stephen Stills, is mastered by Bernie Grundman from the original master tape, and is pressed on 180-gram double LP at Quality Record Pressings. Housed in a tip-on old style gatefold double pocket jacket by Stoughton Printing.

Originally released in 1976, the War compilation album Greatest Hits contains a monster set of Chicano funky grooves from L.A., most of which forever transformed the sound of funk. The album includes most of the band’s best cuts — such as “Slippin Into Darkness,” “Cisco Kid,” “World Is A Ghetto,” “All Day Music,” “Me & Baby Brother,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” and “Low Rider.” One of the hippest funk, rock and soul groups on the Cali scene of the ’70s, who just kept on making great music as the years went on!
