The MCRU NO.2 interconnect was at first an experiment to see how the new Keith Eichmann RCA plugs performed using our reference pure silver cable, the results were so good we made up some more interconnects and began a full listening session. The detail retrieval is excellent, this interconnect cable is a sure fire winner.

Splendid! First thing to mention is the superb service. Ordered online on a Sunday, despatched on the Monday and delivered by 10.30 on the Tuesday. How good is that! Now to the interconnect. Before going into detail purchasers should be aware that the interconnect will perform at it’s best after a period of burning in, roughly two weeks in my case. However, when you have allowed for that the performance is astonishing. A few months ago I purchased the MCRU Ultimate Speaker Cable (which I reviewed very enthusiastically) and partnering this with the MCRU No.2 Interconnect is a marriage made in heaven. The interconnect is more than the icing on the cake, it is the cake and eating it. Fitting the interconnect between my cd player (Creek Destiny) and my integrated amplifier (Musical Fidelity M6SI) I found the retrieval of detail to be amazing, I’m hearing things I’ve never noticed before. It’s not just the detail, it’s the nuances of the playing that come through. Whatever you play it feels like a real performance, you can sense what the player is feeling. I’ve only experienced this when listening to live performances and so this is quite an achievement bearing in mind that this is music being conveyed through electronics and various bits of wiring. Other notable aspects of the cable are the very precise placement of instruments and voices within the stereo image, the separation of instruments and voices – you can clearly differentiate between instruments playing together i.e flute and oboe or guitar and banjo – and the rather lovely tonal quality of the voices and instruments combined with a brilliant realisation of various percussion instruments. The sound is beautiful but is certainly not dull. What we get here is an interconnect with pure silver conductors and the innovative KLE connectors and what I would consider to be a remarkable bargain. You can pay far more for interconnects but I’m willing to bet that they would be hard put to better the performance of the MCRU NO. 2 Interconnect. Very satisfied.

I have now converted all my cabling to MCRU mainly following on from the pretty dramatic results I got from the initial mains cables, the onto MCRU No.72 speaker cables which were half the price of my existing, but were far better. Now onto the MCRU No.2 interconnects which straight out of the packing were stunning and quite frankly a bargain. Between my Tom Evans Groove + SRX, Vibe 1.5. Linn DS and Usher amp listening to various genres of music, there was a stunning opening up of the sound stage, instruments were defined in there own space and the soundstage wider deeper and very stable. The soundstage appeared to be louder (!) and there was a greater level of subtle detail, the bass now growled and was a lot cleaner. This is after a burn in after about 20 hours and using tracks, both vinyl (including my original Tubular Bells & Animals) and streamed. These cables are beautifully made by hand and ooze quality. An absolute bargain – I have only one regret that I didn’t do it sooner!!
