MCRU have made literally 1000’s of mains extension blocks in the 10 years we have been in business. All hand assembled in our workshop in Huddersfield and sold globally we never get any sent back because of under performance or a system mis-match.
Our very latest design is called the No. 1 because it is just that. We have found a combination of sockets, cabling, plug and fuse that totally gel together to offer a truly astonishing sonic performance which has to be heard to be believed.
The aluminium lined mains block we use is a german design which is known for its DIY abilities, we remove the on/off switch and light and re-wire the block with our preferred cable which is soldered directly to the internal rails using audio note 6% silver solder as we have not found any better solder in 30 years of tinkering.
The rails themselves are silver plated to an exceptionally high standard by our plater who has been in business since the 1950’s and they are experts in this field. They specialize in plating jewellery and are not industrial platers, the latter cannot produce the quality we need. Silver is the best conductor of electricity known to man and offers clear improvements sonically compared to standard brass and copper parts.
Internally the block wiring is fitted with our bespoke filtering system to reduce the effects of RFI which we have used in our mains leads and extension blocks for over 10 years with great success.
The cable itself is manufactured in Japan to a very high standard and uses 5.5mm² conductors so your equipment will always get the current it requires, there are manufacturers of audiophile cable in Japan who show the utmost attention to detail and performance and we are proud to support these small companies who, we believe make the best sounding mains cables available anywhere.
The cable we use retails for well over £100 per metre, we only use the best! We cover the cable in our trademark carbon infused polyester sleeving which acts as a final barrier to prevent the cable acting as an aerial (picking up radio waves) otherwise know as RFI.
The mains plug is the plug the industry has been waiting for, the Furutech FI-1363 which has previously only ever been available in gold or rhodium plated versions, MCRU have commissioned Furutech to make a silver plated version. Furutech’s attention to detail is legendary, nothing is over looked in the quest for ultimate sonic performance.
Finally a plug is only as good as the fuse fitted, we see competitors products, supposedly high end products but fitted with 20p fuses, we fit the best, Synergistic Research BLUE, there is no better fuse on the market.
The No. 1 mains hub is supplied with 1 metre of cable as standard, longer lengths can be made to order, we offer the No. 1 in 4, 6 or 8 way configuration, please specify when placing your order.
The No. 1 is also available with an EU mains plug and EU Schuko sockets no extra charge.

I’m not one for reviews but this block has transformed my system. The whole dynamic has changed, bass starts and stops with no overhang, midrange is hugely revealing with micro dynamics that give performances added realism, I’m so impressed with what this mains block has added. Finally the treble results are extremely clean, cymbals crash, you can hear the metal springs underneath the snare drum. Yes it’s expensive but if you crave that extra 10% then I would definitely recommend this mains block.
