Transcending Continents and Memories 33.3 rpm 180gm LP

£35.00

Herb Reichert’s 2018 “Stereophile Record to Die For”

A unique collection of French Medieval and Chinese melodies, recorded in the Medieval (and only) church in the small village of Nevian in Southern France. The blend of Medieval Organetto, Chinese Pipa and Fiddle, supported by various percussion instruments is an aural experience impossible to describe. The uncanny juxtaposition of the two music cultures is something I invite you to experience. I’m pretty sure you’e never heard anything like it before.

Transcending Continents and Memories 33.3 rpm 180gm LP

Herb Reichert’s 2018 “Stereophile Record to Die For”

“This perfectly recorded admixture of French Medieval, traditional Chinese and post-postmodern avant-garde music is surely one of producer-engineer Todd Garfinkle’s finest releases, on both musical and sonic levels. The contrapuntal interplay of Chinese pipa (lute), organetto, medieval fiddle and percussion parlays contrasting tones, textures and unexpected shifts in harmony into marvelous musical moments without precedent or equal. When I listen to this unusual recording, I inhabit the musicians’ space and feel I’m sitting in the room among them. This recording is, for now at least, the finest combination of music, art and sound I know of.”

The Japanese made MDC lacquers were expertly cut (needless to say) on the fly by Bernie Grundman in the spring of 2016 on his Scully lathe equipped with Westrex cutting head. All cutting amplifiers utilized custom made vacuum vacuum tube circuitry. I brought my modified KORG MR2000 with all the master files on board and the signal went via the shortest path to the lathe thru a passive attenuator box custom built for the studio.

The freshly cut lacquers were then immediately Fedexed to Master Craft in New Jersey where Desmond plated them, creating both Metal Masters and Mothers. I had initially intended to press records in Japan, but a multitude of issues arose with the only remaining plant there and this plan had to be abandoned. Eventually, I made contact with Record Industry in Holland where the present records were, I must say emphatically, expertly pressed!

The traditionally made, very beautiful cover was printed in Taiwan. The quality is very high! The LP itself is packaged in MA Recordings’ custom made inner-sleeves, made in Japan, exclusively for MA!!

Or the typical wounded singer wallowing in self pity. Morissette, and both the lead single from and her entire American major-label debut  — the profoundly personal Jagged Little Pill  — represented a sea change. They kickstarted a movement, one whose impact continues to echo throughout the mainstream nearly three decades later.

Diverse Set Encompasses Ballads, Waltzes, Hard-Swinging Bop

Bill Evans catapulted to the top of the jazz world in June 1961 after reeling off three straight masterpiece sessions at New York’s Village Vanguard with his trio. Yet the emotional highs came to a screeching halt shortly thereafter when bassist Scott LaFaro died in a car accident. Devastated, Evans refrained from playing for nearly a year. If not for an inspirational collaboration of tremendous creative outpouring, one wonders what fate may have befallen Evans. Undercurrent, the outcome of two studio sessions with guitarist Jim Hall, is that project.

Mastered On Mobile Fidelity's Renowned Mastering System And Pressed At Rti For Definitive Sound.
As it celebrates its 50th anniversary, Bill Withers' Still Bill remains true to its title – and stands as the greatest male-fronted soul album not made by a singer named Marvin, Al, Sam, James, or Ray. Though the saying "keeping it real" did not exist in popular parlance when Withers released his sophomore effort on Sussex Records, no words better capture the music's approach, mindset, and value. Every facet of Still Bill radiates honesty, truth, and emotion. These characteristics – along with Withers' strong singing, hybrid arrangements, and deceptively simple songwriting – have allowed the album to endure to the point where it sounds as fresh today as in 1972.
