Eric Dolphy – Outward Bound (Stereo) – Analogue Productions 180g Vinyl

£49.95

Eric Dolphy has sometimes been described as an iconoclast, but in Outward Bound, he was not overturning his idol, Charlie Parker; he was building on Bird’s legacy. So deep was Dolphy’s musicianship, so free his imagination, that he enchanted trailblazers like John Coltrane and Charles Mingus. Partnering in this collection with the brilliant trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and a stunning rhythm section, Dolphy is at a peak of energy and creativity on alto saxophone, bass clarinet, and flute. He and Hubbard work with empathy reminiscent of the young Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Pianist Jaki Byard, bassist George Tucker, and drummer Roy Haynes were ideal accompanists and co-conspirators in this widely influential work.

"Back in the golden age of vinyl there were many different test LPs available - all rather similar to one another. Analogue Productions decided to create a modern test disc that hasn't been done before, and have succeeded. It specifically addresses the turntable, cartridge and stylus." - John Sunier, Audiophile Audition, February 21, 2010 "The disc is indispensable for anyone who is dedicated to the most accurate adjustment of his LP playback system and thus the best sound." - Harry Pearson, The Absolute Sound Editor

Analogue Productions is proud to present Birth of the Blue in an exclusive first-of-its-kind stand-alone release that reflects our reputation for meticulous production, capturing authentic sound with clarity, depth and fidelity that exceeds the audiophile standard. Miles Davis's Kind of Blue was the number-one jazz album in history. It totaled five songs. There are four more songs from that same historic group, recorded in the same time period and at the same studio. And here they are. These songs deserve to stand on their own with artwork to highlight the quality of the music and that matches the time period of the recording. This is a rare opportunity to have a smash follow-up to what many consider the greatest jazz record ever!

2013 Stereophile Record To Die For (R2D4)!
Mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound "If you're a jazz-following audiophile, go buy this right away. Flummoxed by the $90 price tag? How much would you pay for the most palpable illusion you'll ever experience that Pops and the First Lady of Song are back among the living—standing, breathing, singing, and blowing, right in front of you? ... It's the only QRP Verve I've heard so far, but if it's a harbinger of things to come, it's what Satch would call a mitzvah!" — Fred Kaplan, www.stereophile.com, December 2011
