Solid build, easy on the eyes, does what it says

Have been looking around for alternative signal cables for my REL subwoofer to and fro for a couple of years’ time. The one supplied was always a bit flimsy-looking, at least five meters too long, and with only bare wire at the amp end. I’ve been led to understand that from a strictly sonic perspective, virtually no audible differences between (high level) subwoofer cables should be expected, so this has been more of an aesthetic and practical pursuit.

One day I noticed that MCRU had added a by the looks of it solid, no-frills high level cable to their range of cables. Sensibly priced at that, so as not having to break the bank. With their signature close to zero response time – be that late at night or early in the morning – we discussed various configuration alternatives and quickly settled for a cable terminated by some Eichmann silver spade connectors they had lying around, in a length more apt for my setup, and with a branching point four feet from the spades to make it usable for mono blocking. When discussing the many options, the MCRU suggestions always felt to be aimed at ensuring I was happy with the final product, rather than maximising their own profit. Truly a seller inspiring full confidence.

As for the cable itself, it does what I expected of it, no more no less. Certainly prettier to look at, and the more suitable length means that I no longer have a tangled mess of unsightly black cable lying next to the amp, gathering dust bunnies. The benefit of spades for this application is likely debatable at best, but if nothing else it makes shorting the amp by accidentally crossing the wires when I’m rummaging around on the back side of the rack an unlikely proposition.
