The Straight Line Contact Speaker Plug has been designed from extensive research into the differences in sound quality between plugs on loudspeaker cables. After considering many options, Graham Nalty has developed the Straight Line Contact Speaker Plug as the best possible solution.
In the Straight Line Contact Loudspeaker Plug, the connection between plug and terminal is made along a short linear conduction path over a very narrow part of the circumference by a brass wire, plated to prevent any tarnishing that would degrade the sound quality by diodic effects. To hold the plug in the terminal more securely, a small steel wire spring, plated to match the colour of the contact wire, is attached on the opposite side of the 4mm pin to the Line Contact conductor. The spring is not electrically connected to the wire so as to prevent a second conduction path between the wire and terminal that would reduce the sharpness of the focus in music.
The gold plated GN-2 Straight Line Contact loudspeaker plug employs the ‘Straight Line Contact’ design principle in a way that is easy to achieve a high quality connection. Two securing screws are fitted to ensure a more reliable long term connection than by using a single screw. The best results are enjoyed when the outer screw secures the wire over its insulation and the inner screw (nearest the contact) makes the electrical connection to the bare wire. For larger cables of up to 3 sq. mm (13 awg) both screws can be used to secure the bare wire. The limit on the size of the cable that can be used is determined by the size of cable that can be secured without the set screws protruding outer the collar far enough to foul the outer cover.
The screw assembly is covered by an attractive carbon fibre shell.
