As the owner of one of the UK’s top cable makers I have spent nearly 50 years tinkering with cables for my hifi system. I can remember far back in the beginning when I acquired my first “stereo” as it was called back then, it was an all in one design with fm tuner, turntable and cassette deck all combined. Even that long ago the wires to the speakers picked up RFI although at the time I was so young I didn’t know what it was or how it was caused. I remember just playing music for the first time and how good vinyl sounded. It took a few more years to discover that different cables affected the sound, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.

Other manufacturers were telling music fans way back then that mains cables made a difference, often they were ridiculed and still are. I have spent probably over 30 years being interested in what cables do to the sound of music systems, the older I got the more interested I became. Running MCRU for over 15 years has taught me so much about cable geometry, shielding, screening, what makes a good cable and what does not. Many doubters scoff at the idea of spending £50 on a better fuse for the mains plug, well the electricity travels through the fuse to reach your system so it really should be the best it can be.

I have decided to design a small range of cables bearing my own name to fully reflect the advances in cable design and above all what can be achieved with using the best of everything.

The David Brook Signature mains power lead is my best work to date. It surpasses all my previous designs and is the best I can make.
