The great American songwriter Bob Dylan may have had that in mind over 50 years ago when in his infinite wisdom he gave the title song of his third LP the refrain “The Times, They Are A-Changin’”. And so they are. We’re really rather pleased we can include this song on our double album. It is a splendid motto for the times we cover here: a musically vast decade stretching from 1955 to 1964. And while we are on the subject of simplification: the key words of this pop decade – and thus for these four LP sides – are rock’n’roll, folk, beat and soul. Each of these styles boasts its giants, and many of them are gathered together here. They stand out above all because while shaping “their” style, they generally developed and refined both it and themselves further. It wasn’t just the times but the artists and the styles that were changing, and there was a complex interaction between these elements.

The 5x platinum-selling album in the U.S., Face Value, was the debut solo album released by Genesis drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Collins, released in February 1981 by Virgin Records. The album was recorded from mid-1980 to early 1981 with Collins and Hugh Padgham as producers. Additional musicians include the Phenix Horns, Alphonso Johnson, and Eric Clapton.
Dusty Springfield – Dusty In Memphis – Analogue Productions 45RPM 2 x 180g Vinyl

Originally released in 1969, the concept for Dusty In Memphis was to take England's reigning female soul queen to the home of the music which had inspired her. Produced by Atlantic's Jerry Wexler and Arif Mardin and engineered by Tom Dowd, the record's highlights include "Son Of A Preacher Man," "So Much Love," "Breakfast In Bed," "Just One Smile," "I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore" and "Just A Little Lovin'". Springfield is backed by a crack band that had previously worked with Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, King Curtis and Elvis Presley among others. The musicians - collectively known as the Memphis Cats - include guitarist Reggie Young, bassist Tommy Cogbill, drummer Gene Chrismann, pianist Bobby Wood and Bobby Emmons on organ and electric piano. Songwriting contributions came from, among others, Randy Newman, Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Dusty Springfield is one of the finest white soul singers of her era, and this is the undisputed proof.
